The capital of Antioquia will be the setting for the Climate Marathon, an academic and scientific dissemination event framed within the SOS Cuenca project: Sustainability of ecological and social systems in the Magdalena-Cauca basin under climate change and forest loss scenarios.

The meeting will bring together researchers and scientists from the Universidad de Antioquia, the Universidad CES and the Universidad Nacional – Medellin, who will present the results of five years of study on the climate crisis, next Friday, August 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the main auditorium of the Parque Explora in the northern part of Medellin.

The conference will feature 12 oral presentations by master’s and doctoral students, addressing topics such as the impacts of drought on Andean forest species, atmospheric humidity in the Magdalena-Cauca basin, water security under scenarios of forest loss and sustainability of social-ecological systems.

This marathon is a unique opportunity to deepen the study of phenomena such as atmospheric circulation, flying rivers and water stress in forests, key elements to understand and address the climate crisis affecting the region and the world.

Among the coordinators who will lead these discussions are Alejandro Martínez, Clara Villegas, Estela Quintero Vallejo, Juan Camilo Villegas, Juan Fernando Salazar, Lina Berrouet and Paola Arias, who will close the event with a conversation at the Biodiversity and Climate Crisis Colloquium.

The event is aimed at the academic community, scientific institutions, decision makers, collectives, media and the general public interested in learning about advances in research on the climate crisis.

You can attend in person or follow the live broadcast through the YouTube channels of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Antioquia and Parque Explora. For more information and registration, visit https://forms.gle/jQN3fXNbkik76d7H6
